Where to fit

Sling swivels are usually best fitted along the underside of the rifle, but this doesn't have to be the case. You may wish to fit them to the left side of your rifle (or right if you are left handed). This has the advantage of making the rifle sit flat onto your back when carried.

Wherever you decide to fit them they need to be mounted on a solid piece of wood. The rear swivel should be far enough away from butt pad to avoid drilling into the pad fixing screws.

How to fit

Start by removing the stock from the rifle, on the mk4/Air Wolf, there is a single 8mm stock bolt to be undone, just in front of the trigger guard. On the X2/Air Ranger this bolt is 3/16 AF. Then attach a piece of masking tape onto the area to be drilled and carefully centre scribe or punch a mark, this will stop the drill slipping. You now slowly drill a hole using a 4-mm (5/32) drill bit. Make sure you drill squarely and you go deep enough. Twisting a piece of tape around the drill to indicate when the correct depth is reached can also help.

Counter sinking the hole will also help to avoid the stock splitting when you screw the stud/adapter in place. It may be necesary to shorten the front stud, depending on the depth of wood. Use wood glue on the stud for a permanent, strong job. Do not use the quick detachable (QD) swivel to screw in the stud, but instead use a small screwdriver, nail, or punch.

Using a Rifle Sling

  • A rifle sling can be used to steady the aim
  • Hold the rifle in the shoulder with the right arm and put your right arm through the sling
  • Wrap your arm down and around the sling and hold the for-grip
  • You may need to adjust the sling to get the right tension. Carrying the rifle using a sling is a matter of personal taste
  • Carry the rifle muzzle down when its raining which avoids water going down the barrel and only allows rain onto the rear scope lens, which is easier to clean!
  • With the swivels mounted on the side, one arm and your head can be put through the sling; this supports the rifle and allows it to be brought up quickly into the aim

Periodic Checks

At least once a week check the QD swivel side plate is secure and that all stitching is intact.
